I never lived in the Tuscon area, just visited.  Phoenix grows on you.  Its a shock to the system that most everything is brown.  Its Beautiful in a different kind of way.  Just know that downtown Phx doesn't have much of a nightlife.  You want to go to Scottsdale for that.  The housing market bottomed out in Phx before most other places.  SOme of the outer suburbs are pretty nice.  I've got friends out East in Queen Creek and Chandler and out west in Glendale.  I always lived in the Phx city limits.  Its strange one block you can see beautifful historic homes and the very next block is ghetto!  Tempe is pretyy nicce becasue its where ASU is located.  There's a man made lake and they have all kinds of festivals and parties out there.

Be aware that when I moved there originally in 2001 Az had a total of 3% African American population.  And all the black women I knew in Phx with a man, brought him there with her.  It seems like very few brothers in Phx are interested in dating Black women, but the white boys love us!  That's another story for another time.

The Phx area has a pretty high crime rate and for instance car insurance rates almost doubled when I moved there (lots of thieves take stolen cars across the border). 

Now everybody's first summer is a shock to the system, but check out the north-Flagstaff and Sedona for weekend get aways.

Thanks Michelle! I'm on the phone with one of my girlfriends from church who moved to Scottsdale last year - she pretty much told me the SAME things you mention.  I am definitely looking at the Scottsdale area...and will be visiting her in August.

I don't live in AZ, but I just got back.  I was out there visiting my son.  He relocated a few years ago.  I love AZ and would move there in a heartbeat -- Tuscon is a nice place.  I hope you get some great information.

Hey Karen - thanks for the info! I have been inundated with friends/family saying..."Move here!" I'm going to visit a couple of places first...this move is something I want to do within the next year or so, so I do not want to move without thinking and praying on it.

OMG!!! You would LOVE Scottdale! I spent some time out there about 10 years ago. It is so clean, airy and quaint.  I am sure it has been developed more since I was there but I only imagine that is even more awesome. I have colleagues that live in the Tucson area...all I know is that they are happy. Never hear them complaining about the cost of living or anything.     

Hey Lisa, my girlfriend hipped me to a few residential areas in Scottsdale and Phoenix - and I must say it is simply BEAUTIFUL!

I will head there later this year, possibly in the fall...to check it out.
